Cabildo y Juramento: La Bandera de
Argentina Pintada con Rosas - Un Homenaje
a Mi Historia y Gratitud

BLOG 19/02/2025

MILAN

The Opportunity

BLOG 09/09/2024

MILAN - MEDELLIN

I want to share with you a very special art piece from my
current collection, “The Language of Roses”.

This artwork, titled “The Opportunity”, represents the
American flag, but with a unique and personal
interpretation: the technique I used to create it is what I
call "painting with roses," where the stars are replaced by
rose imprints, a central symbol in my work.

This piece was created with deep respect and admiration
for the United States, a country that has had a significant
impact on my life and career. To me, the United States is
more than just a country; it’s a place full of opportunities
that has allowed me to grow not only as a person but also
as an artist. Learning a new language and immersing
myself in such a diverse and rich culture has been a
transformative journey.

“The Opportunity” is a tribute to those enriching
experiences and to the opportunities that have been
given to me. I have been fortunate to participate in three
art exhibitions in this country, which has allowed me to
connect with other artists and expand my creative vision.
Additionally, my memories in Miami, the moments shared
with my mother in New York, and the times spent in Los
Angeles with my family will always hold a special place in
my heart.

This artwork is not only a representation of the American
flag but also a testament to my gratitude toward a
country that has played a crucial role in my artistic and
personal development. Through this piece, I want to
convey the gratitude and admiration I feel for a place that
has offered me so many opportunities and that will
continue to be a constant source of inspiration in my life
and in my art.

Art, Colors, and Solidarity:
Bringing
Joy to Children Through
Creativity

BLOG

MILAN - MEDELLIN

As an artist, I believe in the transformative power of art,
not just as a means of expression but as a tool for
spreading joy and hope. Over the past few years, I’ve had
the privilege of engaging in various activities with
children in Medellín, particularly those from
underprivileged backgrounds and those battling serious
illnesses like cancer.

In these sessions, I bring art materials and snacks, and we
spend time together painting, exploring colors, and
enjoying each other’s company. My goal is to make art
accessible to every child who needs it, giving them a
moment to escape their challenges and immerse
themselves in the creative process.

These experiences are deeply motivating for me. They
give my work a greater purpose and remind me of the
power of solidarity. Through art, I aim to provide these
children with a special moment of joy, helping them open
their minds and focus on the beauty of creation, even in
difficult times.

Esperanza: Un Mensaje de Amor
y Libertad a través del Arte

BLOG

MILAN - MEDELLIN

agradecerme, me hizo
sentir que "Esperanza"
había cumplido su
propósito.

Este cuadro no solo es una
expresión de apoyo a la causa
venezolana, sino también una
extensión de mi propia lucha
por la libertad y los derechos
humanos.

The Flower Festival of Medellín:
A Blossoming Inspiration

BLOG

MILAN - MEDELLIN

As an artist deeply rooted in
Colombian culture, the “Feria de
las Flores” (Flower Festival) in
Medellín is much more than just
an event; it is a profound source
of inspiration for my art and the
unique technique I have
developed of painting with roses.
This festival, rich in history and
tradition, perfectly embodies the
vibrant and colorful spirit of
Colombia—a spirit that I strive to
capture and honor in my work.

The “Feria de las Flores” is a
celebration of Medellín's deep
connection to nature and the art
of flower cultivation.

Originating in 1957, the festival was created to celebrate and honor the local “silleteros”, farmers from the nearby village of Santa Elena, who carry large wooden structures (silletas) filled with elaborate floral arrangements on their backs. This tradition has roots that go back even further, reflecting the region's long-standing relationship with floriculture. The festival not only showcases the beauty of flowers but also pays tribute to the hardworking campesinos who dedicate their lives to cultivating these natural works of art.

Colombia is one of the world’s largest exporters of flowers, and this tradition is at the heart of what makes the “Feria de las Flores” so significant. The festival is a vibrant explosion of color, with parades, exhibitions, and cultural events that fill the city with life. It is a time when the creativity and dedication of the “silleteros” are on full display, reminding us of the beauty that can be achieved through the harmony between humanity and nature.

My main art studio is still located in Santa Elena, the very place where the “silleteros” tradition was born and continues to thrive. The influence of this area and its people is present in every piece I create. When I paint with roses, I am not only creating art but also paying tribute to these incredible individuals—the hardworking and honest campesinos who are true lovers of nature and the art of colors. Through my work, I aim to honor their legacy and share the profound connection they have with the land and its blossoms.

The “Feria de las Flores” is more than just a festival to me; it is a reminder of the cultural heritage that informs and inspires my art. Each brushstroke with a rose is a celebration of the vibrant life and beauty that the flowers represent, and a tribute to the “silleteros” whose dedication has brought so much beauty into the world.

PAINTING WITH ROSES

BLOG

MILAN - MEDELLIN

a Colombian artist from
Medellin with a deep
passion for creation
and innovation.

My life and work are
profoundly influenced
by my connection to
nature, particularly
roses, which are not
only a symbol of beauty
but also my primary
tool in the creative
process.

I am David Zolo

Since childhood, flowers have
played an important role in my
life. I clearly remember the first
time I attended the "Desfile de
Silleteros" in Medellín, an event
that celebrates my country’s rich
floral tradition. This event
inspired me to explore the
creative potential of flowers,
leading to the birth of my unique
technique of painting with roses.
My technique involves using
roses as brushes, with each one
leaving its unique mark on the
canvas. For me, this process is a
way to immortalize the fleeting
beauty of roses, capturing their
essence and texture in each
piece.

Painting with roses not only
allows me to create unique
textures and movements but
also transforms each piece
into a celebration of nature
and life itself. I’ve been
fortunate enough to travel and
live in different parts of the
world, which has enriched my
artistic perspective. I’ve lived
in Germany, Argentina, France,
the United States, and Italy, in
addition to my beloved
Colombia. Each place has
contributed something
valuable to my work, but I
always return to the roots that
connect me to the land and
the flowers of Santa Elena,
where I have my studio
surrounded by the beauty that
inspires me.

My work has been exhibited in several major cities, including Miami and London, and I’ve participated in renowned art events such as Art Basel. However, each piece I create, no matter where it’s exhibited, is an extension of my essence and personal story. In my most recent collection, "The Language of the Roses", I explore the symbolism and poetry these flowers represent, drawing inspiration from the rich culture, fashion, and art of Italy. Each rose in this collection tells a story, a feeling, a silent message waiting to be discovered. For me, art is a deep connection with the world, nature, and spirituality. Through my technique of painting with roses, I aim to share that connection and convey the beauty and emotion I see in every flower.
